Jefferson Station Commissions Portland Artist Robert Gleason for Lobby Painting
Jefferson Station Building unveiled a painting by Robert Gleason in the lobby of the historic building on First and Jefferson in downtown Portland.
PORTLAND, OREGON December 19, 2008 -- The owners of Jefferson Station Building unveiled the original painting by local artist Robert Gleason titled "Standing Tall" in a dedication ceremony attended by dozens of owners, tenants and staff. The acrylic painting on canvas is 60"X60" and was commissioned by the five owner-tenants to commemorate the completion of one of Portland's most successful commercial condominium projects, according to Jay Clemens of Turtledove Clemens Marketing Communications.
"It was a rare opportunity for us to acquire a Gleason original that was created specifically for our building lobby to showcase the unique character and location of the four-story historic building on Portland's waterfront skyline." Clemens went on to state that Gleason's work is nationally recognized and one of very few pieces on display in Portland.
Gleason said "Jay saw my work in a local gallery and tracked me down to see if I would create a commissioned piece for his building. It took a bit of convincing, but I'm glad he was so persistent. It turned out to be one of my best pieces of work."
The painting features a colorful view of Portland's skyline from the East side of the Willamette looking West. The small four-story white building is dwarfed by the much taller nearby buildings and is punctuated by a dramatic perspective of the Hawthorne Bridge leading your eye to the subject.
The other building owners are Tom Kemper of Kemper Co; Craig Sweitzer of Urban Works: Greg Wiler of EEA Architects and Ron Sloy of Sloy Dahl and Holst. Robert Gleason is a master in watercolor, acrylic, oil and computer animation. He has shown his paintings in galleries throughout the West and won numerous juried awards.
